Check ACER's website to be sure if they support this--you'll need it!
Within about three months of purchase, the disc drive on my ACER (similar model, no longer available, purchased at Sears in 9/2007) stopped working, the Vista software no longer prompted me for passwords and shut out the Administrator, and tried to format any device plugged in via USB cable )whether software was installed or not), and within 4 months started running VERY slowly (we're talking at the same speed as my old 128MB RAM Compaq). By the time the computer was 5 months old, it refused to acknowldeg that any backup had been made of the C drive and would not allow disc defragmentation in any mode.
It was also very frustrating having it surrpetitiously decide to change wireless networks; I was regularly dropped and reconnected to nonfunctioning networks.
When I tried contacting the company for help, all I got were canned replies. It probably didn't help that the serial number on the bottom of the computer is printed in such as way that it wears out quickly; since I couldn't provide them with that, ACER wouldn;t even sell me a reboot disc (yep, that's right: You get no safety nets or backup software with this brand!).
Bottom line: You really can't do much worse than ACER!
