Onix 200 designed for simplier GPS users
I have used this unit for a bit and find it to be designed for a simplier gps user. The use of a compass overlay on top of images (satellite or topo) provides an easy to understand location and path route. It does not have some of the advanced features of other units and the .

It does have some unusual menu and button paths to reach normal gps features that most of us are used to having within easy "reach".

Buttons are a workout for your fingers to manipulate. Menus and screens use same button different ways depending on area.

Computer software companion is very basic and not very well thought out. Software does function but you are on your own to sort out what is does.

Documentation is getting better but still leaves out some nice to know facts and methods.

Some of the technical issues I have read from early reviews of units seem to have been resolved with newer software releases. Perhaps future releases of software will continue to add features and improve the interface.

I would not suggest this unit for an experienced GPS user. New GPS users who prefer the visual approach to an electronic guide might be happy with unit?

Don't buy this!!
I currently own an Etrex Legend. I use it for hunting, hiking and lots of Geocaching. I was excited to see a GPS you could download satellite images and areial photos on to. I bought this as an upgrade, and quickly learned why I usually don't by first genereation products. The biggest problem with this unit is that you cannot enter in way points onto the handheld. according to customer service you can do this with the software that comes with the unit. I did not try for a couple of reasons I will explain. I found it incomprehensible they would make a unit that I could not plot a course or set waypoints previous to going to the field with just the hanheld device. How I use a GPS is to do as much as possible in advance, and I do not always have computer access when using it. The other thing is the PC companion would not let me change the units to utm's on the route planner. I want utm's for my unit of choice, but I could not do this so any attempt at trying to figure out how to input and download waypoints is mute (it didn't look all that simple). This is not an easy device to figure out, the base map is beyond bare. It shows just two roads in my area with all the map looking totally blank around me, it shows no small towns and is basically worthless. It doesn't show service in the area only a few points of interest, just none in my area. Mey legend tells me what eateries are at the next exit as well as gas and hotels.Any maps or images you want to download is at a cost of $1.00 ea. this is not nearly as intuitive as the Legend is or other GPS units I have used. There are some positives about the unit I like the bigger screen and rubber armor, but for the money there are many time tested and proven GPS hand helds out there with sheaper and more accessible accessories, for now don't waste your time and money.

GET ANTHING BUT THIS!
Nothing good to say about this. I have owned 5 gps in the past.

1. can't read downloaded maps, extreamly poor resolution, useless and cost $1 a map for very small area.

2. Says they give 4 free maps after register. I received nothing. Called and they said it takes 72 hours. Still nothing after 4 days. Said they will give me credit for 5 maps including the one that I paid for and got "lost" nothing showed up except a huge file in email explaining how to load the maps in the unit.

3. Lots of trial and error on trying to load the maps, had to call few times. Poor website on selection of maps. I bought one that I selected using my address. Photo map loaded but saw nothing but stated I was looking at the map. The photo map feature is useless.

4. Display extreamly difficult to read in sunlight compared to Garmin, etc. After adjusting display to 80% contrast I could see the display a little better.

5. Compass feature slow to respond and appears innacurate, does not move as I walk like other gps.

6. Buttons extreamly hard to press and use for navigation.

7. Manual poor and says nothing about how to load the maps in the system.

8. Turned off gps then turned on few minutes later and my map dissapeared from the gps! Perhaps it wasn't really there in the first place as I saw nothing but it had the title of my map.

9. Very fat, big and heavy for a gps that only does first generation navigation.

Too many other things about this gps and can't waste my time anymore.
