I bought this system a little over a year ago. After about 8 months, it won't recognize a DVD at all. The first time it did it, my wife and I didn't think anything about it. We went back to watching regular TV. Now 4 months later, we are still having the same problem and because the year warranty is up, Technical Support will not offer any advice. There only solution is for us to buy a refurbished system. From reading on-line, other buyers are having the same problem. If you want to listen to CD's and have a decent audio system, this is for you but I wouldn't spend the extra money since your not actually getting a DVD player.

I have bought this system and for the first couple of months it was GREAT!
The sound although not the best was very good for the $$.

BUT Now I am having problems with DVD player. It seems to have issues finding DVD root menue and chapters. The disk is just spinning with a very loud "seaking" sound and goes nowhere!!!

Pros - excellent upconversion of SD DVD's to 1080i
solid virtual surround experience from a 2.1 system
quality speakers
front USB and MP3 inputs are convenient and function great

Cons - no user defined EQ, you take what they give
poor enhancement of dialog
no digital AUX input
analog AUX input has LIMITED EQ features set for music, not movies
sound from my HD-DVD player is better through TV with HDMI

I loved it when I first got it about 6 months ago. With SD DVD's, I still do. The problem, though, is they didn't really make it to accept some expansion of your home theater.

After I got my HD-DVD player, I realized that the AUX input doesn't accept digital audio. I could live with that, but the system then doesn't allow movie EQ settings for the AUX, just music. So, if I want to choose the EQ when I'm running the HD-DVD, I have to choose between Rock, Jazz, Classical and Concert. Needless to say, it sounds awful.

As long as you're going to be using this system for SD DVD's, you will be very happy with it. You may also like the easy connection of a USB flash drive loaded with music.

I went on to Amazon and saw the HTS6600 for the great price of $249.99 so purchased it. It normally sells for $500+. I however received the older HTS6500 model. I had to return it and get a refund. BEWARE: You are really ordering the old model. The picture and details on the page are incorrect.

On closer look of the HTS6600 page, the specs and reviews are all for the HTS6500. It is some Amazon error where they have attached the wrong item and picture to the page.

Played one dvd on this unit and after play the unit would not eject the disc. In fact the unit said 'no disc'. Nor would it play. I should have listened to the reviews on this site that said the player had major problems. Philips tech support actually had the nerve to suggest that I take it to a service center and PAY to have the disc removed which they claimed they would refund. For a brand new player, this is pathetic, particularly when so many other people seem to have had the same problem.
